The Nutcracker disappoints

First I would like to begin by stating how excited I was to see the Nutcracker ballet with my son's fiancee and her daughter. I had not been to see the Nutcracker in years and remembered the production that I saw at the Michigan Theater as first rate. This was not to be repeated, however. I thought there would be a live orchestra and also a traveling, professional troupe - emphasis, traveling dancers with some local dancers and children. I paid $45 a ticket, not crazy expensive but seats reflected this price. The first act was dreadful, the dancing was not professional and brought to light that this production was performed by a school of dance, and not professional ballerina's. They brought out most of their dance troupe ranging in ages. One ballerina slipped and almost fell. The music was taped. I gave this two stars because the 'Guest Artists' helped greatly in the 2nd act. They still could not bring this production up to the level it should have been when paying good money. I would expect to see this type of performance at a high school performing arts theater. That's not to say the dancers didn't try to put their heart and soul into the production, I just should not have to pay professional pricing to see this type of dancing.

Incredible Performance & Rude Audience

The dancers and musicians were wonderful. My fiance and I enjoyed every moment of their performance. It was the first time either of us saw the Nutcracker and we'll definitely be back to see it again in the future. The audience, however, severely lacked manners and proper etiquette. We see a lot of live entertainment (shows at Sheas, BPO, and Chautauqua) and this seemed to be the worst crowd yet. There were couples carrying on full conversations during the performance, kids misbehaving, and people walking in and out of the theater repeatedly. The only recommendation for the venue is not allowing people to buy snacks with loud rustling wrappers to bring to their seats. The noise was highly disturbing to those around the snackers..
